sad news about the old girl dennis if the block isnt cracked and the crank is still good despite the score marks which it has already been said how to fix this problem (one good thing i suppose is the crank in your engine is not nitrided so it is a little more user friendly) trying to find a 4bd1 let alone a 4bd1T is going to be a challenge as most places say that they are getting to old... i did come across some places that had some 4bd1T's last year i asked them how many K's they had and the reply was minimum of 150,000 but usually around the 280,000 mark and were selling for between 5k and 7k unless people on this site can point you towards somewhere to get one it might be better to rebuild and exchange parts from one engine to the other and whilst at it if you have ever considered turboing this would be the time to do it and get it over and done with all depending on the pocket of course

    G'day mate. Crikey, what next?

I've been to this mob a time or two for brackets, a clutch fork and other trinkets I was missing on my engine.

    Japtruck Dismantlers
5 Journeyman Cl, Berkeley Vale NSW 2261
    Tel.02 43 88 4422.

It's run by a pair of brothers and they seem to concentrate on Isuzu's and Toyota's - from little 3 ltrs to big units 14+ ltrs. Got heaps of stuff but not crap everywhere - I always take that as a good sign. Also got tons of fasteners in big buckets and let me pocket a few for nought, so I keep going back for things.

In relation to the 4BD1's I know he carries them but (a year or so ago) said he sent a lot of them (and 4BE1's) to Pakistan..??

Anyway, they're sort of local for you and a fair bit friendlier than some mobs in Sydney ie: National truck spares - tried to fob me off and told me 4BE was the same as a 4BD, SMS diesel - BIG $$$, and another mob in Minto who would not return any call of my enquiries - and I was looking to spend $5k-6k ish on a motor...?

Anyway, hope they can assist and only a bit of 'minor' surgery is required for the 110.

    All the best,

    Matt.

Japtruck has nothing for the 4bd1's at the moment everywhere says they are getting to old and you would be lucky to find one SMS has nothing since last year but yes pricey.. Everything is getting so hard to get these days but rebuild kits from america are cheap and you can find some in australia for around $1000 but dougal is probably the man to ask

That would be a donor engine which will likely need a rebuild and some of the landy specific parts of the original engine.

The commercial/industrial Isuzu dealers still have all parts for the Isuzu 4B engines, they still sell new 4BG1 and 6BG1 industrial and marine engines. But the prices are usually ridiculous.

Auh I see... where would you buy your rebuild kit from? or would you buy liners and pistons from seperate places? Would 6bd1 pistons fita 4bd1?

Off topic question dougal but is it ok to mount a turbo vertically (compressor housing inlet facing bonnet) as opposed to horizontally? im going to say "no I can't" but you may be able to explain the technical reasons why

I buy parts off ebay, generic parts off engine component suppliers etc. I'm running chinese pistons and ACL bearings in my 4BD1T, they seem to survive fine.

Oil drainage is the reason you can't run a turbo vertically. A turbo could be designed to run fine like that, but everything currently available is horizontal or close to it.
