So a commonrail small truck engine could be expected to last as long as a 4BD1(T).
That being so? Then why is the 4bd out lasting its competitors in the light truck business?

Have a friend with an IVECO (granted its a lot bigger than the 4BD1 but a 6BD1-T would do the same work.) and the engine didn't last as long as a set of tyres, but managed last long enough to get out of warranty. It's a Euro4 spec engine.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Mate, everyone on this thread loves the old girl, they either drive one and won't part with it or wish they did have one.

This has been good reading!I've always been frustrated with the lr motors and wondered why they steered away from such motors as the 4bd-1 when Toyota and Nissan 4.2's could quite easily overclock themselves in km's.didn't realize the small car emissions comes into it all.especially when it was only 2007 when Nissan ceased on 4.2 with Aus emission laws.I just wish I could come across a good cond county.I'm going to end up with another td5.but I'll be to stoked to care.until the first service and check over....

Thats 1/100 of the amount the Landy owners moan about theirs.

Have/had both.

None are perfect thats for sure.
New cars are built to last 10 years, thats it--sad I know.

At the end of the day, there is NO way I would ever consider a truck motor in a non commercial car. They are just too noisy and agricultural.
The 300 tdi is my limit and was great and will keep going for another 10 years no doubt but in terms of comfort, its way behind modern cars.
