4BD1 into an 88" Series III

    Gday

    Just a probable brainstorming maybe

Say you had a Series III 88" with a petrol in it

What would need to be done to fit a 3.9 Isuzu with the possibility it may end up turboed?

Apart from the obvious, nose cone, bigger radiator, engine mounts etc

    Thanks

A suitable gearbox/transfer such as an LT95 would be the main requirement. It would eat the S3 box. Engine/gearbox mounts and transmission tunnel all would need modifying as well as the nosecone etc to fit the crossflow radiator. Then a beefed up rear axle. I was thinking of doing this to a shorty as well - it would be unbelievable offroad!!!

With the increased length of the LT95 and Salisbury, the tail shaft would be extremely short.

its not a practical fit out to an 88.... I measured it up as part of Kermits refit..

Im not saying its not doable but doing it right would be excruiciatingly difficult.

your best bet would be to start with a 90" chassis and go from there.

now a tdi200/300 with the fuel compensator plugged to a control valve mounted off 4th gear to limit power with a sals in the tail... Thats doable AND you can make it look externally unmodded.

If you did a Stage 1 treatment to the front then it would fit, but then you'd want disk brakes to make it stop and all said and done you may as well start off with a 90.

You could get away with a 200TDi so long as you don't mind changing the gear box regularly.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

If it was done in a 109, would the front need to be pushed forward still, or could the recessed grill be retained? Drive lines would need modified for sure.

Rangie or disco chassis, fit series 3 body on the top and then decide what to do about the difference in wheelbase.
