FWIW - tonight I've just finished replacing the crush washers on the inlet pipe banjo fitting (the one with the gauze filter).
It had those aluminium washers with the bonded rubber seal in the middle, and while they were quite tight, weren't sealing. Have replaced them with copper crush washers - the narrow type as they take less torque to get them to seal.
Symptoms were:
1. Puddle on the driveway under the engine when parked nose down with a full tank
2. If left parked nose up on a hill it would die shortly after starting it and sometimes needed to be re-primed to get it going again.
3. Stuttering under extended high load/rpm.
Its definitely a fiddly job and I ended up buying a cheap set of stubby ROE spanners from Supercheap for $12, and grinding the edge of the 17mm one to do the job. My normal length spanners were either too long or too thick to get in properly.
