    4bd1 engine number location

    I've seen it on here but cant find tge thread can someone tell me which is the engine number on the 4bd1

    LH side of engine just above the front pushrod cover

    Thanms Steve. I've got a number stamped to the left of the dip stick but it's below the front cover not above

    Well, I couldn't find one ANYWHERE on my engine, I got given a new number from the transport department, that I have stamped myself in an easy to see location

    I know this is a pretty old thread, but I happened to be confirming an engine number tonight and found:

    Both the Stage1 engines I looked at (1981 and '82) have the engine number on the upper LH side of the block above the tappet cover as per the industrial engine info above. Its on an area that has been milled flat before stamping.

    The later (1986 and 1988) blocks from a landy and truck respectively, both have the number stamped just forward of the dipstick hole. Its stamped into the rough casting. They still have the flat milled area like the stage1 blocks, but there's nothing stamped on it.

    So if you're used to seeing early blocks - don't panic when you find a later one that appears to have had the number machined off
