Thread: Water cooled turbo

Might seem I bit dump but I have never had any to work on a turbo before.
The boy bought a county with a 4be1 that has a water cooled turbo on it.
1. It don't seem to notice any boost coming on at all like I do in my friends turbo. I can hook up a gauage to a t fitting and test it just need to know what boost at what speed in what gear?

2. It has a bubble coming into the expansion tank it is not enough to notice when you are driving, as far as temp goes. You just coolant coming out he expansion tank overflow when you stop and you hear waht sounds loke bad indegestion air bubbling into the tank.
Is it possable at all if it the turbo cooling lines letting air into the system.From the turbo cooling jacket of the turbo.
They tell me they don't seem to crack head. We ahve not had it long and don't know if it has been overheated.
Just asking before we take the head off.

Water cooling is not really needed on a diesel. I have a water cooled turbo with the water cooling disconnected. No problems after ~100k km.

I would disconnect the water lines from the turbo and see if problem 2. goes away.

As for 1., fit a boost guage.

Ok I will try disconnecting the cooler line and see what happens.
