    Front spring query on 110

    Hi currently restoring a 1989 110 with a 4BD1T in it.
    I have put new genuine springs on it;
    Front, NRC9448/9449 heavy duty
Rear, rkb101111 td5 spec progressive ( removed self levelling unit)
I am now thinking the fronts are a bit to strong as the bump stops are a long way off the axle although I have only got the engine, gearbox and bulkhead on yet. Will the weight of the rest of the body make that much difference? they don't move much when I jump on it!!!!!!!
What do you guys in the know recommend?
I want to keep it standard height if poss ( the wife is quite short and is already moaning that she won't be able to get in it )

I would wait until you have driven it a bit to decide as they will settle after a while. I run heavier front springs than yours but I also have a bullbar and pto winch hanging off the front. Factory Isuzu county chassis have an extended front bumpstop so if yours was a V8 conversion there will be a fair gap there.

Do you know the spring-rates of those coils?

225 lb/in are pretty firm, I run some in the back for towing purposes (should take them out again), even with the ~1200kg I have on each axle they are firmer than I like. I find 180 lb/in to be about right.

What are you expecting the front half of the vehicle to weigh in at?

    Thanks for your replies.
I am unsure what the weight will be but nothing extra on the front apart from the weight difference between the original V8 engine and the 4bd1t which I think is around 175kg. This is why I thought the heavy duty springs would be fine as they are for when you have a winch mounted up front.
I liked the height it was at when I bought it but never drove it like that as it wasn't road worthy but after stripping it down I wasn't able to make out any colour codes off the springs.
I thought there maybe a standard spring that is fitted to these isuzu powered 110's, maybe I should wait until it is driveable and see how it is, or so I can get the axle weights and match the springs to them.
Just thinking it would be easier to swap them now before it is all built up!

From what I gather, the front springs on Isuzu Counties were Aussie made, I called the company reported to have made them but they weren't very useful, and nobody has posted the specs that I can find.
Standard 110 front springs are 154lb/inch rate, near enough the same length as the HD coils.

If you can measure wire diameter and the number of free coils, it's no problem to calculate spring rates.

Managed to speak to the mechanic who worked on my vehicle throughout it's life.
He seems to think they fitted discovery springs but can't remember which ones.
Will look at the Land Rover spring specs and see if any are close to the 180lb that are recommended, if not will try mine and see how I get on and may replace with OME ones when I can afford them!!

My 180lb/in springs were sold as LR HD and that's all the info I have. They are all the same length (give or take the usual variation in coil springs). I can't find the free length anywhere handy but I do have it recorded somewhere.
