pump rebuild = $$$$. Be careful where you tread without known costs up front... I had my elements replaced during a rebuild a few years back with higher flow capacity units as the N/A pump was at about 80-90% of max flow with the turbo. Given it was already being stripped down and I (still) plan to I/C it I figured I might as well go the whole hog and do up the pump once and for all!

I'll hopefully be taking my pump back off again soon so I can run it on the test bench and print off the findings as I cannot find the print out my mate gave me this is with a ground cam ,internal adjustments and then screw maxed out only option left is try and source larger barrel+plungers with suitable helixes and that will fit my pump frame but of course Bosch is a secret service like most diesel injection places in Australia...next step for me will be sending the pump to America...

    Pump

To be honest I would be happy just to get rid of the hesitation at top end and possibly squeeze a little more fuel out of this pump for now. I think doing this and maybe a bigger/better exhaust will make it quite a nice drive. I,m not going to connect the waste gate untill I have the pump problem sorted.

just a thought, mine hasn't done the surge thing since i backed off the fuel because of clutch issues i was having. now with the big clutch in it , it still goes really well so i have left it alone. might wind her back up again and see if it returns....just thought this may help in your diagnosis.

if the cam is sitting dead flat (screw physically in your hand) i find that something inside does not agree...mine also gained all weird and wonderful idle problems whilst like this... a slight turn back in just to take up the miniscule amount of play in the cam seemed to clear everything up

The screw is not physically in my hand, but is right on the max limit so to speak. Should get a little more testing in this weekend.

Well took the exhaust off and test drove. Seemed a bit less choked, so to speak. EGT was definitely lower and the exhaust note was very cool. Had to stop short of more testing as the oil line to the alternator started leaking( perished ) due to age.
The biggest problem is I can't give it enough fuel. So until I decide what to do I may just waste gate it at 17psi and leave it. The vibration in the car is ****ting me so I need to find it. I have a horrible feeling its in my truck box conversion somewhere.
