not so, theres a few other things to be checked first.

like the advance weights on the dizzy.

give it a rev to about 1200RPM and then let it run back to idle if it goes away while its on over run its not usually anything to disasterous.

Id also be doing a compression test before lifting the head off.

Tryed the running the engine up in revs and still makes the knocking sound on over run then went and done a compression test and all the cylinders were over 300 psi note my testing unit only reads up to 300 psi. So drained out the oil and droped the sump no metal or fragments found so then droped the big end bearing cap on conrod No 1 to inspect the bearing and it looks ok thou a few fine scuffing/marks, how ever i can slide the top of the conrod side to side on the gudgion pin with minial effort. Not sure what to do next?

So i decided to pull the head off any way, once i had removed the hed i could see what i belive was causing the rattle on piston No 2 there was a chunk missing from where a peice of compression ring gas gone through so i removed the piston assembley and there about 30 mm ring missing as well as a chunk of ****tion gone as well.
Thankfully the bore is unbelivable un damaged.

So now iam on the hunt for either a good replacement piston or new one also a set of rings and while iam at it i will renew the big end bearings and mains oh joy >.<

Dont waste your time fitting a new piston and rings - fit a genuine Isuzu piston and liner set together with bearings etc - the rebuild kits are very competively priced - the result will be worth the effort

Haven't priced mains, but big end bearings were only about $40 for the set when I did mine.
Good thing about these engines is that you can buy parts "per pot" if you need to. Even big end bearings (not that you'd bother as they are so cheap).

    And you still got 300+PSI?

My next suggestion was going to be endoscoping the combustion chambers.
