I don't see how you could 'wire the fuel shutoff solenoid on tdi injection pumps open and drive with the battery disconnected. I don't know about the earlier rover diesel engines.
Ah IC, I thought he meant a 12v feed/wire to the solenoid from removed battery. I don't know much about the Isuzu, just that the owners are pretty smug about it being the roughest and toughest engine... I suppose it must be, its been 20-30 years now and I rarely hear a complaint about them on this forum . Perhaps that's because the engine isn't a land rover engine and therefore is not bound to the land rover code of conduct where one must report all faults!

Anyway its good to know you can easily pull the pin out the bottom of the solenoid on the TDI, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Or perhaps, because it's only two faults are well known.
    1. It's heavy.
    2. It has too much torque for landrover gearboxes.

nope, all engines installed between landrover chassis rails are bound by the law, it just doesnt have any faults.

for example, the transit engine in the puma isnt a landrover engine either and theres plenty of faults reported with that one.

One could argue that all 4BD1 faults are reported, so what you see is the result of all the complaints... i.e. none! Those you do find tend to be people blaming a starter or alternator or a worn through wiring... aka, not the motor at all ;-)

There was a thread recently reporting 4BD1 faults.
It made for pretty boring reading.
