Spent the evening laying out the exhaust.. unfortunately my welding magnets don't seem to play nicely so it going to an interesting job

Had a look to see the best place to fit the EGT probe - thinking in the exhaust manifold as it enters the turbo.. but.. 1) the manifold looks too thin to tap, and 2) even with the holder done up tight, the probe easily slides in and out - is this normal? I dont see how it could be

You might find this helpful for clamping joints: Tubing clamp for welding
Now I've got a decent MIG I just mark them with a paint pen, remove and tack (MIG doesn't reach the driveway!!) and test fit.

The EGT probe should have a small olive under the clamping nut. If that's missing there's no clamping action. I tapped one of the turbo adapter plates, but most others have tapped the manifold. Think you'll find its thicker than it looks.

Seeing as I now sleep in the next room to my engine, I nipped out and took a couple of photos

My manifold is tapped for the EGT where it flares out and squares off, as shown. Pulled out the EGT and took a quick measure - the manifold is 14mm thick at that point, so more than enough metal to bite into and make a tight seal.

You should have all of these components, in that order:

When you tighten everything up, the olive compresses around the EGT probe, in the same way that compression fittings work in home plumbing. If you're tightening up the fitting tight, and the EGT probe is still loose, my guess is that you've lost the olive inside the fitting....

Thats a great idea.. and a good use for the ends of the TIG rods I have laying around. Infact you could also modify it slightly by welding 2 rods together in T for consistent gap for key holing.

Docked the sump today. Was a pretty filthy job Wouldn't want to have to remote it with out ratcheting ring spanners!

    So much more room now

If i'm fitting a provent, do I need to weld in an oil return line?

Made up the dump pipe today..

Don't laugh at my crappy welding I thought I was far enough away for the photo but the HAZ gives it away hahaha.

Enough room with the docked sump.

Going to get a ceramic coating on it to keep the radient heat down.. This is why I didn't put the flexi tube in the dump pipe. Originally I was going to put it in the straight part, but it passes between the alternator and starter motor..

Instead I'm going to put the flexi hose in the next section of the exhaust next to the bellhousing (before the first hanger).

    Looks great!

Where did you get the v-band flange that mates up to the turbo?
I'm also curious as to why you have longitudinal welds in the first 2 bends?

Nice job on the sump too..
Looked at it on my phone this morning and couldn't even see the weld - I actually thought you'd taken the photo from the non-welded side
