FWIW I can't move my new and working wastegate by hand, the spring is pretty tight..

Will get some spray and see where we go!
You will need a fair bit more than that! Lever against something with a decent screwdriver or similar, there is a fair bit of spring pressure to overcome.

How would you recommend doing it? Just put a screwdriver at the end and push on it see if it moves?

I actually use a decent pair of side cutters, grip the rod where it comes out of the actuator housing, and lever against the housing itself and it should be easy to extend the rod out away from the actuator. If not, then it is stuck. You will not need to butcher it at all, hence the requirement for decent sidecutters , grip it tightly so it doesn't slip and score the shaft up.

OK, tried that, I can only move it a very small bit, not much at all.

Can you post up a pic of it? Are there any threads remaining on the adjuster for the wastegate rod? Sometimes if someone has adjusted (shortened) the rod it will have bottomed out the spring in the actuator and this will not allow the wastegate to actually open fully, and give the symptom you have experienced IE only moving a tiny bit.

How far should the actuator move?

usually at least 1/2", but dependent on the length of the arm actually attached to the wastegate valve. short arm needs less movement, longer arm needs more.

Good news, looks like ive freed up the actuator, I can move it with the pliers now, still very stiff but I guess that's what its meant to be like with a spring in there. Going to take it for a run later, hopefully should see some improvement!

Wayhey! No more hissing, seems to be more responsive as well!
Are there any complications to look for after having the wastegate shut permantly?
