    Salisbury Diff Isuzu County

I recently pulled the axles from the rear diff and disconnectrd the prop shaft in an attempt to isolate the source of backlash in the driveline. Transfer case ok, prop shaft slight play, axles ok, diff cactus- this may explain the horrendous whining noise my car makes which is noted to worsen with speed. Symptoms have progressively worsened with time. Still driveable with ear plugs fitted

Apparently it's quiet rare for Salisbury diffs to fail- half my luck - though it has done 430K kms and 30 yr old.

So the most obvious options i have are to:

    A) reconciition the existing diff insitu
purchase and roll in an entirely new rear axle/diff (quoted 3700)
    C) fit a reconditioned/ second hand one

Existing axle is original with drum brake assembly. I understand can fit newer model salisbury axle case with disk brakes.

I'm leaning towards A and C as option B is a tad rich.

Any advice/ recommendations as to where I can source parts would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers JP

Landrover were recently selling NOS disc salisburies for ~$1500 disc-disc. DaveS picked one up. They may still have some but I doubt it...

I fitted a disc sals to my 110, bolted straight in with no brake system mods. Brakes are a lot better.

New Old Stock. So new but sitting on the shelf for many years.

I recently had my diff rebuilt by diff lapping at Kedron. I got a Detroit installed which I supplied along with new carrier bearings. I also needed my diff straightened which took them an hour or so. Total cost from them was $550 which included new pinion bearings which they supplied.

Dropping a diff out of a 110 is fairly easy. 2 people can do it in 2 hours if you don't have to struggle with any bolts and that's with a few cups of coffee thrown in.
