Thread resurrection alert!!!!
Eventually got the time to pull the injectors out and test them.
All 4 tested fine, no dribbles, opened at correct pressure. So on to something else!
The tips were a bit sooty and the exhaust is also.
May be time to try a turbo!
So I'm thinking of going for the TB2568 turbo.
My reasons are,
Readily available in the UK and not bad price
Performance upgrade on the original
Only the down pipe to make, no messing with manifold or adapters
Sensible option do you think, or should I be looking at something else?
Thanks
I know it's a bit of a compromise and not ideal but can't find and really can't afford anything better like the GT2259 or HE221!
Just hoping it cures the power issues.
So before buying a new turbo I thought I would fit a boost gauge to see how the old turbo performs.
So when accelerating at normal speed it runs about 4-5 psi when working hard it tops out at 9 psi and drops off if left at max rpm.
I haven't got an egt gauge fitted yet so no temp to go by.
Wire the wastegate shut and
Wind out the fuel screw some more!
Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
Don't have that option though! It's got the free floating turbo.
Plus it also chucks out a lot of black smoke anyway.
To sum it all up,
When engine starts from cold it produces a lot of grey smoke and runs lumpy for awhile. When warm it's starts fine with no issues.
Seems to have enough power when driving on the flat road but when you hit a hill it slows down a lot and power drops off, black smokes quite a lot.
Check compression, all ok.
Check injectors, all ok.
Check turbo, results above.
Might be valve seals leaking, Giving cold starting issues?
Engine just doesn't sound crisp when revving.
Any ideas? !!!
