Timing sounds retarded or air flow blocked.
Could it be fuel starvation ie the filter everyone says rarely gets cleaned...
Could be fuel issues, not ruling anything out! Although it does black smoke when pulling so I was thinking more air trouble than fuel.
Yes, mark the current position of the pump, loosen off all the lines and nuts, rotate and retighten. Top of the pump away from the block is more advanced.
Your boost numbers are what I expect from the non-wastegated turbo. With the TB2568 and stock tune you'll get about 2-3psi higher and cooler EGT. But more when you start turning screws to tune.
Actually turned the fuel screw out a bit more tonight and it has definitely made an improvement in the drivability with more response and power, was a bit conservative as no egt gauge fitted yet.
Will get a gauge fitted then test with a load and a hill and report back!
Edit, forgot to say, I removed the air filter element and tried it but was no different, so confident the air supply is ok to the turbo.
Got the EGT gauge fitted and took it out for a run.
Flat out up the steepest hill I can find (which is a struggle in a predominantly flat county!) the temp got to 650c so really need to test with a load on to make sure it doesn't get too hot.
I've also ordered up valve guides and stem seals to try and cure the starting issue and rear crank seal to stop the dripping of oil!!
EGT probe is in the manifold?
Yes in the manifold, not quite in the centre but close as I could get it.
Hey i had the same problem . I ended up replacing the valve stem seals . the smoke stopped immediatly and the breather hardly leaves a mark on the chasis . What i found was the valve stem seals were proberly the wrong ones from the start as i rebuilt the engine after water bent a conrod oops . i simply put the cylinder on top dead center of the particular cylinder and removed the collets with a leaver system (very long nose plyers)and the tappet hold down stud . Worked realy well Instant difference . White smoke is un burnt fuel , however do the valve stem seals first and use genuine parts much better
