You can fit gauges for everything

All you need is a low coolant (and that's optional I've seen one run without coolant for over half an hour till t sowed and once it was cooled down a new radiator hose fitted it was fine)

You have a temp gauge and a low oil level

If you turbo t and tweak t you should get an eft and boost gauge but they're optional if you time it right

Apart from the standard, I run an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp), Boost (mine has a turbo), and CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature). They give me a good idea of what is going on. Have both the standard coolant temp and the head temp is very good at diagnosing any issues.

The EGT and Boost are VDO. The EGT has a prob that is tapped into the exhaust manifold just before the turbo and the Boost gauge is mechanical with a tube that goes to the turbo.

The CHT is an "Engine Watchdog".. digital read out and user set alarm.

If you have not touched your Injector Pump and are not running a turbo I wouldn't worry about the EGT. In standard form you will not go above 400deg C.

Only gauge I have added to mine is a fuel gauge for the auxiliary fuel tank. Seems to have survived to 580,000k with nothing else.

In my view, anything extra comes under the heading of "interesting" rather than "necessary" or even "useful".

Last month I thought my sender was playing up because it was running just below the red mark, but it would get up there within a km and the expansion tank was full. It didn't feel hot so I did another 350km over a few days. When I pulled the motor out there was a hole big enough to put a finger through in the rad bypass hose! Still ran fine
I think it will be a good investment.
Have also just bought VDO EGT/boost gauges.
