You're right, that makes much more sense. I had been using this website which says the diesel first gear is 3.39.

Well this gearbox is pretty much an MSA-5R with a 14% taller gear. There's two ways you could go; use a 1.003:1 LT230 and not use 6th much, or use a 1.221 LT230 and have a short first. Either way, it seems a bit of a waste having those two OD gears separated by only 14% while the first four are separated by over 40%.

Agree about the lower gears and the 1003:1 is too high.
What I like is that with the 1.221:1 transfer the lower gears will be able to get a heavily loaded (or even higher unladen mass) vehicle moving to highway speed and the three top gears used to keep the revs up in the 1500 to 2500 RPM range to maintain highway speed. Note that 5th is about 1800RPM at 90KPH and 4th 2500RPM. Compare that to the 0.996:1 LT95 where 2500RPM in 3rd is only 70KPH.
I gather that to use a MXA-6 box you need to run the transfer divorced/remote.
You would have to ask those that have done the mxa or noel may know, but pretty sure its not a straight bolt up to the msa adapter housing and shaft.
What I understand (but have not confirmed) is that the 6th gear is a housing behind the 5th, or at least a longer mainshaft with all the 5R or 5S gears in front. But I thought I remember something about the box being too wide to close couple to the LT230.

AFAIK there aren't any planetary overdrives for the LT95. Roamerdrive (Roverdrive) were considering but no movement on that yet.
I don't know if you can install an overdrive on a Perentie LT95 box because of the bottom PTO interface.
Or am I missing something?
Correct Diana, you can't have a PTO unit and an overdrive on the LT95 at the same time. It's one or the other unfortunately. OK if you don't want a PTO winch or a 6by drive unit (Perentie)
When looking around for a more "acceptable" ie more comfortable Land Rover, I took a Puma for a drive to compare with our touring Perentie wagon. I thought the 6 speed was a PIA. I thought the ride in my 110 was a noticeably nicer (softer spring rates I assume). I liked the interior but was quite underwhelmed by the Puma with a $40k price tag. It's quite good value relative to other brands, but not enough of a leap from the Perentie. I understand why many love them, but not for me.
My downfall came when the salesmale suggested I take the D4 HSE 3.0 for a drive. I now understood what my family was looking for in a touring vehicle.
Basically, I wouldn't swap a 6 speed for a LT95 in a Perentie.
