Thread: Our Defender/County 120?

Great truck! I have always had a soft spot for 120s. It's that ozzie only thing again, just like my stage1 Isuzu.
I too have also been know to chase down run away toymotors thru handbrake failure. From memory the hardest part was getting the door open and then jumping in, in one fluid movement.
Thankfully, haven't had to do it since only driving Landrovers!

Yep was dear enough but I can't be bothered finding more Fenders with 4BD1t. Bit rare these days other than ex mill.

Has a few issues but still like it. You want to give up chasing Yotas It's a dangerous past time

Have got to know the 120 a bit better today. Not to many more dramas yet
The worst is the shocks are to long for standard mounts, binding on up travel when pushed hard in rough going. Has so called 2" spring lift but more like 3". Thankfully caster has been done so steers great. I've got to either extend bump stops of relocate the top mounts the second may be best.
The rear bulk head is going to be a pain
This pic shows where the lateral movement is. Any Ideas how we deal with it other than pull the turret off


The RHS door latch has been abused over time. Was left out of adjustment to long. I will plate it some how.

These seem to be the only structural drams I have so not to bad

Well, it is certainly not a Defender, and certainly not a County - I'm not too sure what the proper designation is - probably "Landrover 110, 120" wheelbase."

The body problem I doubt you will be able to satisfactorily fix without taking the roof and cabin back off (which is not that big a job, although i'm not sure what trim you have in that). The rivets in the top of the capping are probably loose (or broken) - the Isuzu is great at popping rivets, probably a good idea long term to set the idle a bit higher, or fit a hand throttle. Check that all the cabin back mounting points are tight and present, as if any of them are loose it will allow this to move, but the damage is done, same as with the door striker plate - for it I would suggest plating it with alloy about the thickness of a floor panel, for the full length of the flat part of the pillar, with plenty of rivets, and then have the striker plate mounting bolts tapped into a substantial plate of 4-6mm steel rather than bolts and nuts. (I am assuming the setup is pretty similar to the Series, which I think it is)

Thanks John. You are right with 120" 110. That is how it is listed. This one is full of trim wich is a worry when I disturb it to lift turret to fix rivets. All the holes are elongated or flogged out
Not sure what I'm going to do yet as don't want a bodge job Trying to find a larger rivet and do same on both sides. AS for door striker your idea is all good. Tony
