I don't know much about the Land Rover version - my 4BD1-T is out of an Isuzu truck.
The truck arrangement has a bypass filter and that is the best reason to change IMHO.
An alternative to the spacer is to make a pair of blanking plate to go where the filters mount on the crankcase and on the stock Isuzu filter housing. Drill and tap the plates for hose fittings (1 pressure line and 1 drain line from the bypass filter) and remote mount the filters in a convenient location.
Or separate remote heads could be used instead of sourcing the Isuzu unit. One for a Z9 full flow and one for a small micron bypass filter. This is what I have but with a centrifugal bypass filter (similar to TD5 but cleanable re-use cartridge.
