You'll get the same economy if you drive it normal to hard, but if you slow down and cruise the smaller tdi will give better economy.
The Isuzu 2.8 is a great engine, but I don't think it's as efficient as the landrover tdi's or the 3.9. The 2.8's need around 240g of diesel to make each kwh at best, the 3.9 is under 220g per kwh.
Anyone know the BSFC of the 200 or 300 tdi?
VW wins the race with 197 g/kwh on their 1.9 tdi.
i have found economy is very similar to a 300tdi, marginally worse, but only by a nats dick.
as for the punch..
up to 2000rpm, the isuzu wins hands down, over 2000rpm i personally think the 300tdi wins.
aint no fairly involved, it is massive chucks of volume quieter :PQuote:

I have a 300 tdi and a turboed 4bd1 here and I can assure you the 3.9 has heaps more pulling power by far:cool: Yea the 300 I have here can blow the 4bd1 off down a hill but not so good off the line, with a load or towing up hill.
had a 300tdi disco manual before 11ltrs / 100 loaded up on a trip. isuzu county 11/12ltrs / 100 loaded up more.
in the isuzu i just stick in top gear tun on cruse control ( brick on the go button) and it stays there untill we get where we are going.
i suspect that the turboed isuzus do better, leaner mix at high way speeds, better burn possably.
ive got the same exhaust on my county i didnt like the 2.5" with a hotdog exhaust when i first got it, it was really drony but now it sounds great. And it helped the ecconomy a tiny bit. Long stroke are you by any chance located in woolgoolga i think ive seen a county like yours gettin around as im in safety beach ive got a white county with qld plates.
Not if you gear the 4BD1t up a bit more. mine is near V8 performance up to the fuel governor in top gear, which is about 135km/hr with 33's and .996 high range.
I wouldn't be able to come close to the performance of my engine and it's current state of tune with a 300Tdi, even a tweaked one:twisted:
AND I'm getting 12/100 city and 13/100 highway and 15/100 highway towing 2 tons at 100km/hr. Got to love a big cube turbo intercooled diesel for low down torque and top end go if geared right:)
The last one we fitted to a 130 with a LT85 behind it destroyed 5th gear because it COULD tow 2 tons all day in 5th:o He has gone to 33's and uses 4th gear now for all the hard work.
It is really hard to actually convey just how good these engines are in a landy/ rangie. You really need to drive one.
