check the tensioner bearing... Last week i thought i had done an alt on my td5. Heard a grumbling noise and it wasn't charging. Turned out to be the tensioner bearing (grumbling noise) that caused a loose belt.
I just bought a new starter motor for my 4BD1 after looking for 1 & 1/2 years. The only place in Aus I could find one was from Holden and they were $1800. I just bought one off an eBay shop for $260aud shipped to my door BRAND NEW!.
Some early Isuzu County's have an external voltage regulator, I'm not anywhere near an expert on this, but my alternator has an internal regulator, and fitting this to an older County (ie 1985) may cause some problems. Here's a pic of my Hitachi 120AMP bought from AME three years ago. This alternator required minimal modification to the standard bracket only. This could have been solved by going to a smaller belt.
