What was the date on the article, i bet there isn't much left now haha. Still if i lived up there I would deffs bea heading out there with a shovel and or toolbox and or tinny to collect parts haha

Shotgun the wheels and convas top and engine, she'll be right with a bit of lanolin sprayed here and there

I rekon they weren't trying hard enough, looks recoverable with enough people/4WDs... NT trip anyone? hahahahaha

Looked up the artical, it was published on the 2nd of April 2009.
And the landrover is on bathurst island of the coast north of darwin. But they even tell you the location, Gordons Bay. Admittedly a prettly large bay but there isn't may places to get on the beach there.

Anyone got a barge or a big helicopter?

At worst they could surely dismantle it and remove it that way?

Would take about a day to strip it down to firewall and chassis, then pull the engine and you could lift it out!

    OK, Plan A
Lets get blknight to charter a C-17 to Tindal.
Chinook out, pick up said Landy, swing by Kimberleys and pick up those LRPVs, head back to Ambers.
    Simple
Plan B, hope a cheap flight up north, head out with tools galore and strip away
