    4bd1 into 85 Rangie

    Hi all,
My old man has almost decided to turf the 'ol 3.5 v8 boat anchor out of the old rangie and put in the 4bd1 which has been sitting on an engine stand in his shed for a number of years. I'm all new to the idea and am wondering how hard this is to complete. Sounds like there's a couple of blokes here who have isuzu rangies that might be able to help. Does the 'santana' lt85 have reverse all the way to the passenger side and then up? ...And is 5th all the way to the drivers side then up? Maybe a serial no. stamped somewhere to indicate the type? Also the 4bd1 is out of a truck and has a 24volt starter motor, an automatic flywheel??? and a winged sump.

I think what may have convinced him to do it is the torque these things have! After driving my 110 he seems to be pretty keen.

    thanks,
    Brian

G'day All, I have seen one of these done, but don't know all the tech/bits, but I'm fairly certain that the Isuzu will not be a bolt up operation, all to do with the bell housing on the G/box hope thats of some help, and I'm sure someone else will know cheers Dennis
yes you are correct with the gear change sequence for a 'Santana' box, my 110 Isuzu has the Santana box much modded by Maxi-drive years ago,,.

I have an 85 rangie with a 4BD1T. I have the Isuzu gearbox.

What direction does he want to head for the driveline?

From what i've heard on this forum, the lt85 seems to be a good enough box for what he wants it for. Its a fairly low mileage vehicle (125,000)kms. So the gear box should still be fairly healthy. I don't quite understand about the reverse comment? Can't the lt85 handle the torque in reverse?

One of your problems will be sourcing an isuzu to lt85 gearbox bellhousing. I might have one in the near future, not too sure yet

If its in an 85 RR it'll likely be an LT77 long shift, the Isuzu will eat it

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
