Engine is ready to go back in now, I think. Never did figure out where the gearbox oil is coming from. Not very much of it.

One thing I did find, I think, is the strange vibration I was getting at about 80kpt - seemed to be engine related. I have found the LH engine mount was loose, the single nut where the rubber mount goes on to the engine. This is almost impossible to get a spanner onto - can't get a ring or socket on it but you can just get 1/12 turn with an open end spanner if you hold your mouth right. This might account for why it was loose - as far as I know it has never been undone. Been loose for a while by the wear. It is also strategically lubricated by the leakage from the vacuum pump return line. I took it right off, degreased it and the bracket, and reassembled it with loktite as well as the spring washer.

Well, the engine is back in and running, just after dark (which is not all that late at this time of year.

I find that this engine installation has altogether too many problems of access. Things like for example the starter connections - half an inch between the main terminal and the chassis, access underneath difficult because of the winged sump, access from above impossible because of the chassis.

Or the throttle connection to the pump - I spent at least half an hour trying to get the split pin in, and this was with the rigid section of the pipe to the aircleaner still off.

And if someone has the trick for getting the supply hose to the power steering pump on or off without a sleeve full of oil, I'd like to know it!

But it goes, no problems with a short run, but I will have to make sure there is no airlock in the cooling system.

And then I have to clean up the tools!

Well done John, hope all is well now. I fitted my engine into the RR with no front guards or rad support etc, it wasn't too bad doing it that way, haven't had to pull it out yet, and not intending to for quite some time yet!

They're fantastic to fit, well in comparison to the 3.9 rover V8 I've just dropped into a 94 RR
