It seems silly to me to go from a larger frame turbo to a smaller frame turbo, at the very least the flange and turbo could be ported, the spool time will improve and there will be less chance of cracking of the manifold.... I mean they are a 3.9l engine or so and 2.3l petrol engines spool at 2500rpm with a largish ported t3, so a smaller t3 should work fine I'd think?

Flange size has no bearing on turbo spool or engine performance. All the modern turbos in this flow-range are T2 flanged. T3 is old and rare.

That is the problem, spooling (as you call it) at 2500 rpm might be fine in a 2.3 litre petrol engine (and is similar to what we see with the 2.5 litre Land Rover Tdi and TD5. But with the 4BD1T we want it at much lower rpm - the useful torque band starts at considerably less rpm.

Bolts are easy to work out, too long and they poke out the other side.

I'm also working on a better single piece replacement for these which I will make here. The amount of machining means they aren't cheap though.

Dougal, could I please have a set of plans to get an adapter made up? I'll send you a PM.

Does anyony know somewhere on the Gold Coast that could make up a set of these? Or alternatively, does anyone have a spare set they'd be willing to part with?

I may be trying to sell my county, but that doesn't mean I have to stop doing things to it
