    ZF 4HP24 and 4BD1T

Has anyone tried a ZF4HP24 ES with a 4BDI T here? I would imagine getting the converter to suit the 4BD1's torque curve would be a challenge. The electronic shift is no problem.
Surely the box would last a wile compared to a 4HP22. Why I ask is the 4HP 24 seem to come up for under a grand these days.

    Working towards a future project

I think JC persisted with this for a while. The pulse of the motor eats ZF's.

I always thought he tried the 4HP22... I had best have a search again.

    Hi tony,

I was recently thinking about revisiting this scenario, using a 4HP24 with a compushift etc. I sourced a box, and even got Ashtrans to give me some advice etc about compushift setup etc etc. BUT, in the end I still chickened out as I KNOW this current LT95 will last and be totally reliable. So call me a conservative person but I'd be really upset if it (The auto) let me and my family down in some remote part of the Simpson etc

I liked the 4HP24 because the converter and the lock up clutch etc is way bigger than the HP22' and that was one of the failure points on the 3 4HP22's I went through in 8 months or so

I still have all the adapters etc, let me know if you want to give it a go.

I will add, that if it works and is reliable, it is the best conversion for a RRC, 4BD1t and an auto I loved it when it was going

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

I'm a bit keen to try it out but was hopeful I was not the 1st to find out if it fails.

My wife is pushing for a LSE soft Dash for a daily driver and for towing a double horse float. (We all know the V8 is to dear to run as a daily driver) If I can find one I think the 4BD1 T will do the job much better then the 300 Tdi I have here ATM. The LSE really should be an auto so is still nice and easy for her to drive in Sydney etc. I want it to be very reliable as well. If the 4HP24 works out it would be a great rangie.

I'm shopping now for the donner LSE They are hard to find in a soft dash that are green

If I find the Rangie I will be interested in the adapters for sure. I wonder If a heavier flywheel could be used to dampen the pulse. The 4HP 24 converter must be heavier as well. I dont know yet.

I drilled the flywheel on mine and bolted the converter adapter etc to it, so I had a flywheel and a torque converter for rotating mass. Our LSE was going to be the 4HP24/ Isuzu project, but now has a 300Tdi and auto sitting on the floor next to it ready to install, ex 1998 D1. K.I.S.S

    (Isuzu would've been better)

Yours will still be a great bit of gear with the 300 in it They're not to bad for a little 2.5 and from what I have had to do with them are fairly hard to kill.
My neighbor ran his out of water and drove it to a stand still.... Was going on a trip Tassie so we had to do a in chassis band aid to get him going again.. Second hand pistons, new rings and a tested second hand head went on. I could not believe the bores still had the cross hatch in them even though the pistons had grabbed and rings were all broken.
40K latter is still going strong.

Back on topic....Did you have the torque converter modified for the 4BD1's early torque curve?

HA! 300Tdi Vs 4BD1T??? Its a bit like hopping off an XR200 and onto a full on Ballards XR650 There aint no comparison

With the 2nd incarnation, I had the TC modded for lower stall speed, drove well and ran cooler BUT I reckon it helped kill the box faster, more transfer of lowdown vibes possibly? Although I WAS running a fair bit more fuelling and therefore torque output than I am running now....

I hear you on this.... I have a 300 D1 here and the 4BD1 T 120 and sure can feel the diference.

Sounds like for better living chance leave the converter alone and fit one big mother of a oil cooler.

This would make a good donor vehicle...

Vehicle Detail - Pickles Auctions Australia

Pity it is WA, goes up for sale tomorrow AM.

Judging by the rego, it is a Tassie vehicle, looks like 1 that left to do the Canning a few months ago. I'll check my records tomorrow and see if it is that one.
