Vern glad to hear its under control .If you look at the OD of the break you will probably see a different colour .It needs a highly skilled heat treater to avoid trouble where the shaft transitions to the heavy flange section and even slight misalignment in the adaptor is going to be trouble One of the reasons for a fully floating design

Oh yeah. First gear high range up a dirt track. Not a happy camper at all.
It felt like it had just popped out of high range.

Before you put the loaner shaft in, is the adapter case in good nick?
Done a quick sketch up of the Outcast adapter measurements in case you really are stuck for a replacement, in case they turn out to be the shortest possible route to getting another unit. Hopefully the loaner will get you home.

So not being able to sleep very well tonight, was thinking as you do, would a better option be to get a flange made that bolts where the adapter shaft bolts and then use a floating axle? Like a rrc cv arrangment with aftermarket flange. Understand?
Yes. This would also mean you can get the shaft manufactured by someone with a reputation for making and heat treating axles like HTE or a US supplier. A flange with an internal spline is not as critical in terms of material or heat treating.Quote:

Yeah they should get lubricated the same way as the intermediate gear splines do now, may require some form of cross drilling or oil flinger.
