That's right.
I honestly don't think a reverse shift would worry me much, but that's how long it takes for it any action to become instinctive.
Funny thing is that the first time I sat in a race car with RH gearshift I didn't even think about it, it just all happened and I never, ever went to use my left hand.
Much the same when i drive an auto, i just automatically left foot brake/two pedal the car yet jump back in a manual and never get confused footsies, yet I jump into the Patrol and turn on the wipers when I go to turn a corner![]()
I have 'dummied' up a corrolla FWD shifter. Cable shift would possibly work but cables would have to be turned quite tight and didn't want the vague cable shift feeling.
Ive since gone to threaded rod(x2) and rose joints at either end. To maintain normal shift pattern the top Isuzu g/box lever needs to be reversed by removing the pin and rotate 180. the standard lever needs to be staightened out to clear the fire wall. Is close but does fit. (Maybe this could solve your problems Grubb?)
Im pretty sure I have this figured out for my set up but im doing a custom centre console and moving the shifter / handbrake so may not suit everyone.
Will post pics ounce I have things sorted. Hopefully not too far away.![]()
On a side note...
I have some yuckynissan gear lying around here for another project I have
and got playing abit...
The input gear of the Patrol transfer case would make it pretty easy to get a tight little package with the Isuzu MSA box. About 150mm shorter from bellhousing face between the Patrol 5sp/Patrol Transfer and the Isuzu 5sp/Patrol Transfer and about 90mm shorter for the Isuzu/Patrol Transfer compared with the Isuzu/LT230.
Would be nice if the LT230 were so simple to make shorter to be able to shift the engine back and take some weight of the front axle.
Hi Sheldon. I have cut another transfer box of an LT 95 so I can work on mating it to the MSA without having to take out the one I am using.
Can I buy the plate and spacertube off you for this. Will this bolt up to the MSA box I have that already has the rear housing removed?
Well my conversion turned up today, shifter works really well, just in reverse. Anyway looks like a good bit of gear, look forward to getting it in in the next 12 months

FYI - the next batch of housing are going to be a machined casting as opposed to a machined weldment.
Who was this fool who said this???Never believe someone when they say it can't be done.....
With a bit of magic, looks like the Defender kit (along with the Disco kit) will be able to be done with the standard shift pattern. Might need a bit of cutting (approx. 2 X 1 in.) to the thick insulation on the underside of the transmission tunnel for the defender.
