What mounting methods have you used for the thermocouple probes to get them into the air flow ? I was thinking about drilling and tapping them into each end of the IC similar to how you would mount an EGT probe. It would only be a 1/4" thread, so could easily be blocked up later with a brass bung.
After looking around at what's available, I think this would be a good combo............This unit has the advantage of displaying both temps on the screen rather than switching between them >>>>>>>> CEM DT-613 <<<<<<<<
If you need longer thermocouple leads, you can get them from Auber in the States. I got my EGT setup from them. Their prices and postage are quite reasonable.
Auber also have connectors to adapt a K type thermocouple to plug into an instrument >>>>>>>>> Panel mount connector <<<<<<<<<<<< I'm presuming that this is a common plug used for this sort of stuff.
Dougal, does this mini connector look like it would plug into the top of the unit you have ?

Check out your multimeter, I know some of the Flukes have the ability to accept the connector generally used with thermocouples (not the minis the full size ones) and read out in Celcius/Fahrenheit instead of millivolts.
cant see it too well but here is a pick of a probe I have previously used, showing it more to show the connector type in yellow

Yes those are standard mini K-type connectors and work with the DSE dual thermometer I have.
In the inlet pipes I mounted it similarly to an EGT probe, but for the probes that weren't metal sheathed I simply covered them with resin filled heat-shrink before putting them in brass compression fittings. I welded small flat patches of steel on the tubes and drilled/tapped them for the compression fittings. I also use brass bungs to block the holes afterwards.
there are a few articles on autospeed on this kind of topic - everything from 'intelligent' water sprayers to temp monitoring kits... personally I think the added complexity of water to air over air to air is not needed even for low range work as the periods of time involved at full throttle are pretty short, we aren't talking minutes, merely 10's of seconds at most - so the I/C ends up being more of a heat sink than a heat exchanger during this time... anyway, here is a good article for a cross reference:

you guys think too much. Twist the wires together and stick them between the silicon pipe and the flange. Push them through a bit, so they are in the air flow, and tighten the hose clamp back up. No probe needed. The air steam is the hottest bit (the outer metal pipe is heated by the airflow) so the thermocouple wires will give you this reading. Some thermo fans use a similar technique in the radiator hoses with their switching.
This is not meant to be scientific, and your engine wont detonate if its wrong (unlike a egt).

I'm not up to speed with the technical side of thermocouples.
Just to clarify, are you saying that you can just use the bare end of a thermocouple cable. As long as you twist (solder ??) the two wires together, it will give you a reading off the tip ?? That would surely be a lot more simple for what we want to do.
If, for example, you cut a probe off and then twitched the wires, would it give the same reading as the probe did ??
