......Hang on...just had a look at the unit itself, and its got:

Air Clearner: FRG 08-0462
Main Element: P90-0611
Safety Element: P90-0434

Ther you go! Nice of Donaldson to advertise & handy for replacing elements as required.

Both Donaldson and M+H have new filter assemblies with plastic housing and radial seals at each end of the elements made from non-porous foam. These housings should last almost indefinitely as there are no metal components used. It is also almost impossible for the new seal type to leak.

If I was buying a new housing I would go to a donaldson or M+H agent and ask for an equivalent to the FRG 08-0462. Make sure the one they sell you has a main element and safety element though.

If you go for the originals, check the 'best before' dates on the filters! There's some really old stock getting around.

I've just been talking to one of the Donaldson guys in Wyong. He said the "FRG" assemblies are metal and the plastic equivalents are denoted by "FPG". Also, he told me that the FRG 08-0462 assembly with safety will only flow enough cfm to cater for about 76 hp. He is getting someone to call me back, but it sounds like something that allows more flow might be needed.

Also, he told me that for ordering purposes they drop the FR or FG. So you might need to search for a "G 08-0462" to get a result.

I was told the same thing by a donaldson rep.

The guy from Donaldson called me back and we worked out that they don't make something that would suit what I want to do. Also, to get the flow I want (I said to suit around 120 hp, but basically just pulled that number out of my a$$ ) he said I would need a very bulky filter.

As an alternative he suggested I look at their new PowerCore range. He reckons they would work well in 4WD applications, but there is at least one problem to start with. There is no adapter to fit a snorkle to the intake side, so you'd have to make something to suit and it's not exactly a common shape.

Has anyone used one of these, or had a look? If it could be made to work it might be a good space saving product.

Donaldson are VERY conservative with their specs.

The powercore filters work well but have quite a high pressure drop - I would bet that the largest powercore you could squeeze under the bonnet would have the same or higher pressure drop of the stock filter.
