Personally, I can't imagine why you'd want to do this.....I find the County seats extremely comfortable, especially for long distance, last year we did Coolangatta to Cairns in one go, and even my passengers were amazed at how comfortable the standard seating is. If shock loads are a problem, it's probably due to stiffer than standard suspension springs being fitted, and passing on the 'bump'. You sit on the standard seat, rather than in, so the body is well ventilated and upright.
I've seen many Japper seats last less than ten years, let alone 23, and try and get them reupholstered-costs heaps!. They're hot, soft, get mouldy, and fall apart, let alone the loss of access to the underneath area and organising the blue plate. Resale value of the vehicle is also compromised.
If you can't live with it, buy a Rangie.

What about modifying the current seats to add lumbar support or softer foams etc...?

I must agree with Gerry that I find the county seats very comfortable on long trips. Lumbar support is probably the only way they could be improved, and possibly more headrest padding...

They were fitted by a previous owner and approved by an engineer, I find them really comfortable and they also look right too.
Jerry D - I love the yellow rope on the passenger side. Is that to stop the window glass from rattling down ?

Well done Rod you've guessed correct I wondered if anybody would spot it.
I suffer with a painful lower back now and again and I find these seats really good as they tend to hold you firm in the seat, with good support too. I wish I could find a brand new set to put in

I found that replacing the seat foam pads (courtesy Exmoor Trim) made a big difference. I found them quite comfortable driving to Perth and back two years ago, and from here to Melbourne and back last November.
