RR 2 door street and drag project

Hi all. I know some of you will think this is sacrilege, some will think it's silly and some will hopefully think it's awesome.

As I've said in another thread, I grew up with range rovers, my dad had a fast street 2 door that he occasionally drag raced. As a kid I loved the look of surprise when people see an old Range Rover take off fast.

So here is the plan. We have a 78 2 door that has been chopped into a ute, that should help with weight and make it stand out. Currently it has a ford 302windsor mounted up to the stock 4 speed manual and still running 4wd, we initially were going to turbo the windsor and run 4wd but decided we dont want to ruin such a good motor and eventually the 4 speed will be no good

So now we are going just get it all up and running on the current motor and sort out suspension and brakes etc, then we will go an ls1, turbo 400 and a ford 9 inch rear. Just 2wd

    Here's some pics

I just painted it yesterday so no fitted pics yet but will soon. Got to get the doors on first, then guards, then cowl. I think that's the order lol

Reinforce the chassis around the mounts. And when you think it's right, remove and make better.

Cool! I've been doing up some designs to chop a 4 door into a single cab style side ute and drop on its guts. Awesome idea! Watching closely!

The bonnet is just sitting on. Not mounted yet. Seems I'll need to clearance it around the passenger wiper too

doesnt look like much progress. But all the panels are fitted up. Had drama with the scoop hitting the cowl and fresh air intake.

Hi Guys, i have been away but i havent forgotten about this project, i have been busy on it and on my other cars. The priority was to strip everything i want off the old shell and get rid of it, sick of it taking up space.

After tossing up various plans, going to an LS etc. We have decided for now to install the 302w with a blow through turbo setup. We are interested to see the results and good to do something different, to keep learning and developing .

    here are the pics

you can see the new car is starting to sit lower now with the engine in, it might end up being approximately where i want the ride height.
