I'm not biased or anything
Hows this compare to other mass produced cars of the mid 1950's
Prestige, 1946 Cadillac.
.
You beat me to it, but there is no way that is a mid fifties version - late sixties at the earliest.
But seriously, you are looking at a car that appeared on the market in 1955 - contemporary with the FJ Holden, Ford Popular, etc - and which featured inboard disc front brakes, self levelling suspension, split, load sensing, fully powered braking system, drag coefficient right up there with the best today can offer. By contemporary standards it offered incredible ride comfort and at the same time better handling than virtually anything else on the road. And by the time it was discontinued in 1975, the only changes needed to meet safety standards were fitting seat belts and antiburst door locks.

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
