From memory this was the car that 'spoilt the Group B Rally Car Party' when there were a couple of deaths....

As good as they were, there were no match for the Super Pug...the 205T16

Yeah the Pug was brilliant but the Delta had only just come in while the pug had been there for 2yrs already had Toivenen not died they would have creamed the 1986 championship as they were streets ahead of everyone technically. This the spawned the Delta intergrale group A car that won 6 world championships in a row. Lancia have also won more world championships than any other make(also in F1 and world sport car racing too). Unfortunatly Lancia doesn't race anymore.

In the US GMC is referred to as the truck division and still exists in badge engineering of product shared with Chev (as primary 'other' truck badge).

HMC Aust builds the Commodore and derivatives
HEC Aust builds motors available to any other builder/manufacturer who wants the products. You'll find these engines in Daewoo vehicles, which Holden sells in Oz as the (current) Barina and its slightly bigger sibling.

But as said before, GMC is not an Aussie badge.

Read up on company law and name registration and you'll discover why the names are why they are.

When I worked there it was General Motors-Holdens that was the basic Aust. based manufacturing Coy. There were a number of other associated or wholly owned companies that did ( or did on paper) things under the GM-H banner. Reporting was to General Motors Overseas Development Corp. (GMODC), of New York, and then to General Motors Corporation (GMC), of Detroit. The overseas auditors came "out a' Dee--troit" so I suppose through the myriad of corporate puzzles, everything was really GMC of Detroit in the end. Some more senior GM-H staff were employed by GMODC and, by Oz standards of the time, very well remunerated and well treated with fringe benefits. It was considered a great coup to get "on the New York payroll".
