Yeah Banj, I thought I would have a change of Avatar and this time make it a complete change from the cartoon type ones I have used in the past!! The "canon" is actually a 40 mm anti aircraft gun know as a Bofor!! Way back in the late 1960's when I was a very young man I spent 6 years in a Army Reserve (then called the Citizen's Military Force) unit known as 113 Light Antiaircraft Battery then based at Fort Scratchley!!
It is now known as 113 Field Battery based at Adamstown. Anyway. it was an interesting six years and I learnt all there is to know about them (most of which I have now forgotten) and I worked my way up in the ranks to become a Gun Number 1, or Gun Sargeant!!
The Bofor was mainly an Anti Aircraft weapon with secondary roles as Anti Tank and until recently used on our Navy Patrol boats as their main weapon.
The Yanks used twin Bofors in the Vietnam War mounted inside Hercules C130 Gunships. They used to fly in a circular formation around the target area and blast the living daylights out of the target, as only the Yanks can do!!
When you consider they fire two 40mm rounds a second that is a fair bit of firepower.

Anyrate if you are interested have a look at this!!!!

Thought you might be interested in a few piccies of my short military career!!

This one was taken at Singleton not long after I joined in 1964, that's me with a big smile standing on the left!!

Taken during a live firing exercise at Fort Wallace, that's me standing on top loading clips of four rounds each into the Auto Loader, you can see the dust being blown around and my shirt billowing from the recoil of the gun firing!!

Taken at Berridale ( I think that's how it's spelt) inland from Nowra in 1968. I am standing in the front with my Gun Detachment ( I am now a Sargeant). We had to dig the guns in by hand which was a lot of hard work and you can see the gun is only partially dug in!!! The Gun was called "G" for Golf Gun in Army lingo and also know to us as "Li'l Jinx".

Yeah Sleepy, when the gun is firing at 2 rounds a second you don't have time to waste to keep up with it. In that piccy where I was loading, you brace your bum against the railing and go for your life, as soon as you push in a clip of four rounds in the Auto Loader and then reach across to the Ammo Rack for another clip, the Auto Loader is nearly empty!!

    Back to Land Rovers.

I like to peek (and dream) at some of the lovely vehicles for sale around the world. I search ebay-uk for "Land Rover Series", then sort Highest to Lowest price.

Have a look at these gems.

    land rover series | eBay

Cant imagine spending 30 grand on a land rover, but as I always say, "when you are on a diet you can still look at the menu."

Thanks for that Sleeps, I have seen a similiar thing on Metal Storm on TV a few years back. 16,000 rounds per second you would need a B-Double truck loaded with ammo just to keep up with it!!!
