    Nice Land Rovers Jason

Maybe you could think about a little tour in the bush, I'm probably a little too far, but I'm sure there is a few Sydney/Newcastle guys/gals that would be happy to join you for a day in the bush. No need to say yes or no but when you feel like it just let it be known that you are keen and I'm sure you'll get a couple of takers who know that area well.

I recall driving north from Wiseman's Ferry in the 1980's on a nice track - (Someone help me here) - but I'm sure there are lots of other fun tracks in your area.

Another thing I'm sure would be of interest to many of the series drivers here is your power steering set up - Maybe you could post up a few photos of your setup. You could start a new thread on this subject if you feel like it. I'm sure you'll get some interest.

Anyway, I'm enjoying reading your thread and echo bblazes comments.
    Your not alone Jason.

    P.S. I'm 47 (on the outside!)

G'Day again Jason, I put a posting in earlier on about life dealing some people lousy cards to play with, then I thought I had better back off as you really don't need to hear my life's story and problems on top of your own even though I have also been through a lot I don't suffer as badly as you do,though I do get down in the dumps when bad memories overwhelm me at times, you really don't need to hear about my problems when you have enough for several people.
I then had a look at your mebanjo site, MMMAATTE, what you are doing with your beloved Landies is incredible, keep it up I am impressed, being a local I recognise the houses in the background at Cardiff where you live but there is no way I would impose myself on you. I hope to meet you on Stockton Beach or some other place someday, thats if I can get my bloody Freelander going again.
By the way as far as age is concerned, I am an old bloke, in my 60's.

G'Day mate, love yer Landie. Yeah I live at Cameron Park and my Freelander is at the local mechanics at Edgeworth, though it should by now be at ALL4X4 having the ECU problems sorted out. Seriously thinking about getting rid of it as the transmission is sure to fail now because coolant has gotten into it and this no doubt will cost big dollars on top of the big dollars I am expecting to pay for what has been done so far. the Freelander suited us because the wife didn't want a large fourby to manouvre around shopping centre car parks. Which means, sadly we go back to a conventional car. Would like to get a Disco 2 TD5 but she who must be obeyed says, "too big". We can only afford one car and it must be a reliable one as my wife's elderly parents are still alive and need transport for medical appointments and to do the weekly shopping.

It really is a shame because bodywise the Freelander is in excellent condition and as far as I can tell has never been offroad, thats why we bought it, but unfortunately I didn't do enough research before I bought it (I knew the petrol 1.8's where a money pit, but I didn't realise the V6's are also bad news) I should have bought a diesel. I am much wiser now but sadly I am going to be much poorer.

hey aus peter haylock is pretty good it mite not be to expensive..i use to have a 308 holden with a turbo 400 auto box it got full of coolant from radiator split twice the first time we changed out the radiator & flushed the box 6 times..we filled it up with fluid drove it for 20 min using all gears then changed the fluid & it was fine..the second time wasnt so lucky but when we pulled it out we had a look after striping out .we just fully manualised it, put in new seals filters & it never had a problem after that also put a custom rad in it..
Once you get the ECU sorted you mite be able to flush it a few time & change the filters & it mite be ok...
We cross our fingers for you..
but if use do sell before you buy something take your wife & get her to drive a disco & take her to a carpark to try..She mite be ok & if you dont lift it your inlaws should be able to get in..
we have a very elderly couple a few doors down that we help they treat our kids like grandkids & the kids call them granny & sandy....
they are able to get into karen old 4runner only just & karen runs them every where..

Yeah, I do live in hope about the tranny on the freelander, my wifes parents are quite elderly, the old fella is 90 and still quite active and my mother in law is mid 80's and very short. She uses a small step to get into the Freelander so I think for that reason alone she might have problems getting into a Disco. I have all sorts of advice from the tranny WILL fail right through to what you are saying, in other words flush it several times and change the filter!!!!

Sorry 'bout the hijacking, but ...

Ausfree. Take your wife out and MAKE her drive a D2 AUTO TD5.

My wife said the same thing. The D2 was the second choice on the list, because we were getting a Subaru Forester!! (nice car actually ) ...

Anyway, when we were looking at the Subi', I happened to comment when we lifted the tailgate that "there's NO way I can fit a guitar in this boot!" ... that started the ("no sweetheart, it wasn't an arguement!" ) ... _discussion_ about the D2. We took a couple for a drive and she was sold!

It's wheelbase is SHORTER than a commodore/falcon or larger jap passenger vehicle. It's WAY smaller than a Landcrusier/Patrol etc ... It's not as big as you think.

    Seriously, get her in one.

    Kev..
