Got 2012 here on DVD, will watch it tomorrow, they say you need a big screen and a good sound system to watch, I have a reasonable size TV and a reasonable quality 5.1 sound system so we will see how we go.
As far as war movies are concerned, me too Sleeps I have just added "Run Silent, Run Deep" with Clark Gable to my collection. One of my favourites though is an Aussie movie called "The Odd Angry Shot" with Graham Kennedy, a great Vietnam war movie. "Kakoda" is another one.

Gallipoli is a great movie. "my legs are like steel springs....."
    Haven't seen Kokoda yet.
    Not big on Vietnam movies.
I don't know that one "Run silent run deep" I'll have to look out for it.

You mentioned Jack Higgins banjo, the Eagle Has Landed is one of my favourite war movies. Donald Sutherland, Michael Cain, Robert Duvall, Donald Pleasence - as Himmler and a small role with Larry Hagman as the war hungry Colonel Pitts. There is a great line in that movie that Donald Suttherland, as "Liam Devlin" says ," i realized fear one morning, when the blare of the fox-hunters sound. When they are all chasing after the poor bloody fox, it's safer to be dressed like a hound."

I also read the sequel to this "The Eagle has Flown" which would have made a great movie too.

Yeah Jack Higgins writes a good yarn.

"Run Silent, Run Deep" was a B&W movie made in 1958 and starred Clark Gable ( I believe it was the 2nd last one he made before he died) and Burt Lancaster, it was a submarine movie typical of the 1950's style movies, there was also another one in colour brought out in 1957 called "The Enemy Below" starring Robert Mitchum and Curt Jurgens and while we are talking about the 1950's a favourite of mine is a B&W movie called "Sink The Bismark".
