Thread: Perentie Land Rover Buyers Guide

    be warned

If you buy a ex army parentie be aware that buying spare parts will be a nightmare, if not now, these vehicles have many parts that are exclusive, you will not buy off the shelf later on, if you can do now, I have had landrovers for over 40 years now and wouldn't buy a parentie unless they where cheap enough to buy 2 (one on blocks for spares), much better off with a 110.

    G'Day Slippery.
The Perenties are 95% a JRA parts-bin special.
Special variants have some bespoke components, but they are hardly irrepairable.
4x4 Surveillance front diffs for example and the rear suspension/ drivetrain on the 6x6s, otherwise, just a matter of knowing the parts numbers and finding a stockist of '80s isuzu rover bits.
The ADF is also offloading its'spares inventory and I am sure that Domestic LR specialists or enterprising individuals will be stocking up with this gear.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers, BDave.

There are only a small number of special parts, and most of these can be replaced by civvie equivalents if needed.

Obviously the 4x4 chassis and 6x6 chassis, axle housings, halfshafts and body are not available, but unlikely to need replacing barring a major accident.

Apart from that, the special 4.7 CW&P in the 6x6 is able to be replaced by likely superior components from Ashcroft and the like if it fails.

    Update and a Survey

    G'Day all.
I have had a great response so far, but you know what the say: "The more you look, the more you find!"
    I have created a survey to fine tune what stays in the final product and added a link in the OP, but for those that are too lazy , here it is;

Buyers guide to Ex-Military Land Rovers Survey

Even if you don't intend buying the guide or a Ex-ADF Land Rover, please take 5 minutes to give me some feedback.
If you are an AULRO member, please put our user name in brackets in the contact form, last question.

PS, Yeah, Yeah, 'Ex- Military is Ameri-speak!'. I know, it is a search engine thing.
    Cheers, BDave.

    In your opinion.
I dare say the parts for a Perentie will be easier to find than parts for a 101.
Better off with a 110!! I think not.

    Survey done Dave,

My biggest interest as a potential buyer would be to know what/how much maintenance has been done, and how to identify this

These are 25 year old vehicles pushing probably 200k + hard Km regardless of what the odo reads

Would be interesting to get more details from anyone who worked on the refurbs down at South Bandiana to see how extensive the refurbs have been in recent years and if they have tapered off in anticipation of off loading them.
