    Perentie Land Rover Buyers Guide

    G'Day All.
With all of the time spent researching the purchase of a Perentie Ex-Army Landrover, I have decided to write and publish a Buyers guide.
This guide will educate Prospective Buyers about the history of Perentie project and the vehicles it led to.
It will include information on all variants and their significance, the reality of living with a Perentie, specific issues to look for and expected issues that may arise.
It will give hints and tips on modifying them to make them more comfortable (Power steering, turbo etc)
What I hope to achieve is a balance between preserving the Special vehicles and encouraging as many people as possible to become LR owners.

On that, I would love input and suggestions from this Forum and REMLR.
If you are looking at purchasing, what do you want to know?
If you have purchased, what has the experience been like?
    Anything you didn't expect?

This is a commercial project, but I am the first to acknowledge that a large amount of information has come from contacts made in AULRO.
Therefore, if it makes a profit, be certain that I will be supporting AULRO in return.
There will also be an AULRO/ REMLR discount.

Now I know that the thought of 'Secret' info getting into the hands of the general public might upset some who have hopes of scoring 'That Special vehicle' for a pittance. Given the Auction stategy and resultant prices, that won't happen for a few years yet.
If I can help to save 'those Special vehicle' for another day (and opportunity to purchase) than I will be satisfied.

Note: This will not be a definitive History of the Perentie project, though If popular I am considering writing one.

I have created a survey to narrow down the wealth of information to just what YOU want! Please take 5 minutes to help fine tune the product.
If you are an AULRO member, please put our user name in brackets in the contact form, last question.
***Survey closed, thanks for valuable input***

    Looking forward to your input.
    Barefoot Dave.

Dave has already contacted me on this with regards to using some of my threads as source material, he asked me to provide him with a written permission to use the information in my threads on AULRO and since Ive not done it yet, here it is in its more or less form.

Generally anything I put into AULRO I'm writing off to open source with AULRO being the primary holder of the copyright and the information any other pre-existing limitations placed on AULRO communal information still apply

    • you may use the information I have given on AULRO providing you vet it past me first to make sure you havent accidentally tried to quote something I was being sarcastic about or that the information is still correct and valid
    • If your document is an electronic edition that links or embeds information in a direct manner then you are to host the information in an undedited manner on your own service provision or obtain permission to operate the direct links from the hosting service of AULRO.
    • if its not for profit, have at it, if you quote sources then its the AULRO community that gets the quote.
    • if its for profit then my share of the profits go directly to AURLO with a 75/25 split between AULRO and REMLR (this is not a firm % split nor has it been officially negotiated, as I understand it the REMLR side of business sits on the AULRO servers and is a sub area of the whole AULRO deal, the intent is to cover the costs as I understand the loading split to be)
    • This statement does not intentionally cover any of the information that is from or is augmented by other forum members within threads that are quoted.
    • you may not give permission for others to use the same information as you have used quoting your document as the source however they may use the information quoting the source as the AULRO community under the same guidelines as above.

    Thanks Dave.
    Agreed to all the above.

Just so it is clear to all:
I am not simply copy/ pasting the various threads from AULRO into a single document.
Any Information (mainly BLknights) from here will only be used subject to a (yet to be had) discussion with Incisor and the Authors. I am mainly after personal experiences and anecdotes about living with these vehicles.
Many of you know that i am an Ex-Army vehicle operator with more than enough to say by myself.
    Regards, BDave.

A big thanks to all those who have contributed so far.
A free copy will be on the way as soon as I publish!
The hardest thing is deciding what not to include. Very clearly going to have enough material to do a follow upPerentie History :-)

I'm actually not sure why you're bothering, I can do it with just a few paragraphs.

so your thinking of buying a perentie.

    Unless you're

    1. A hard core ex military enthusiast,
    2. prepared to accept that all the money spent on designing the vehicle went into getting it from A-B and not one cent was spent on ergonomics, comfort, noise deadning, airconditioning, asthetics or any other girly do it for me electronics
    3. already a landrover nutter

    Dont buy one.

If you do happen to be

    1. A hard core ex military enthusiast, then you already know how infuriatingly stupid military gear is designed and how hard they are to maintain and operate no reason you shouldnt buy one

    2. prepared to accept that all the money spent on designing the vehicle went into getting it from A-B and not one cent was spent on ergonomics, comfort, noise deadning, airconditioning, asthetics or any other girly do it for me electronics, You already own either a series/county or early defender dont you? this is probably the last box to be ticked on your man card accomplishments list

    3. already a landrover nutter, Trying to stop you buying one will be like trying to tell a 16yo boy to not look at porn. I wont waste the keystrokes

    good points Dave... BUT -

The front seats in those "Perentie" 110s have to be the best I have used in any 110/109 LR.

So they did actually pay attention to safety/comfort in one important way..... my $0.02 worth

    G'Day Dave.
Are you trying to drive the prices down still?

But seriously, given there is national media interest in the sales AND overseas buyers present at the auctions, I came to the conclusion that it is viable.
There are many more reason that drive me, but not for open discussion. Give me a call if you wish.

    As to value for money;
    $60K gets you this:

Hardly light years away in refinement and NVH levels.
~$8K plus another $5-6 in sound deadening, PAS kit, Turbo and AC and you could have a fleet for the price of one!

    The defence rests, Your honour!
    BDave.

Don't buy one yet Mark, the more that are sold the cheaper the prices will get. I reckon by the time they have sold a couple of thou they will be flat out giving them away. That will be the time to buy one. I reckon I will probably buy one as well but it may well be a u/s or incomplete one as I probably have enough spares to rebuild one
