Hi all,
I have been toying with the idea (long hours commuting in the traing every week) with a two, or even three axle trailer with the front axle being steerable (not turn table).
Are there some plans or detailed design you know to... take inspiration from ?
Thank you

looks almost exactly the same as the front end of one of the 141/202 trailers that we use at work.
it wouldnt take much to convert one of them to what you're after.
hell you could do it using the front end of a series III by fabbing out the diff and replacing the tie rod with a pair of smaller ones hanging off of a hinged drawbar.

Any licensing issues now that there is another pivot (although not a turntable) in the discussion. ???? Technically the van (pictured) is now a "Dog" and not a "Pig" as normal trailers/van are.
Hi,
yes, using LR bits is a good idea, as they are reasonably easy to source.

I believe we came across this caravan a year or so ago in at Wilpena Pound, a good friend of mine had a good chat with the fellow that owns it, he moved on before I got a chance to have a good look myself. I'll ask later...
This type of design would make independent suspension work well as it's no longer a tripod like most trailers.
Allen.
To back those four wheel trailers is a work of art, to do steer successfully while reversing, treat the maneuver as a series of arc's.
To help new comer to do this it's best to have a tow ball mounted on the front and push the trailer back with the vehicle moving forward.
.
Hi,
this caravan pulls from the front axle, I would like to pull from a crossmember instead.
Agree with the independent suspension... but in a first approach I think that the leaf springs are much easier to deal with. Just making drawing at the moments, dealing with two steering bars and the springs is a bit of a trouble, specially in a flat chassis.
Yes, reversing is a big problem. What about making the rear axle steerable too ???
