    Tandem trailer choice - Help

I am in the market for a tandem trailer for general carting wood, fertiliser and eventually sheep to and from the farm. We've been using a borrowed single axle unbraked box trailer for the last couple of years but it's time to get our own with more capacity.
I'm looking at 5x10, 6x10, 6x12 sizes, no one seems to make a 5x12. I'm trying to decide if going to electric breakaway brakes are worth the added cost to get the ATM up around the 3 tonne mark to get a payload of 2 Tons. It seems that the payload you get with a tandem override braked trailer doesn't put me that far in front of the little single axle trailer i've been using.
I'm also slightly concerned that going to 6' wide will be a compromise on the general manoeuvrability.
Fitting a car on the trailer isn't really a requirement but it would be good to be able to carry two loaded pallets of fertiliser.
Towing vehicles will be the D3 and my RTV ute

    All suggestions welcome

    Regards,
    Tote

Try this mob. My work have bought their trailers and they were pretty good value. They will also do custom.

    Home - Wholesale Trailers - Wetherill Park - (02) 9757 4566

750kg Single Unbraked might carry 450kg
2000kg Tandem override might carry 1250kg
3000kg Tandem breakaway might carry a little over 2000kg.
    Cheers

Is NSW the same as Vic - requiring electric brakes and a break away controller on any trailer with a gross mass over 2000Kg?
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I bought a 10 x 6 tandem box trailer from a mob in Melbourne late last year. I intend to use it as a general trailer (yes it's a little large for that) and also to carry my SWB Series 1. With the front tailgate dropped I can also fit a LWB on it.

It's rated at 2000kg's, is fully galvanised, with full cage, ramps and 5 new wheels and tyres with overide brakes. With the cage removed, payload is 1500kg.

It cost around $5000 delivered to my place at Tamworth. M & R Industries were the mob if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure why 6' would hinder maneuverability,,
anything with dual axles is a **** to push around,,

You're not wrong. But they're pretty good to reverse.

I actually wanted a 5' 6", but that would have been a special build and more costly.

Just have to sell my 7 x 5 now.

Thanks for the replies, I've asked a few places for quotes on a 6 x 10 with 2 ton carrying capacity, I'll post what we get. It's interesting that there are places offering a 2.8T ATM 8x6 for about $2800 and there are a few 6 x10 trailers with 2 ton ATM for the $2400 - $2600 mark but a 6x10 with ATM of 2800 seems to jump to $4000 +
I pegged out a 10 x 6 and a 12 x 6 on the ground behind the ute and the 10 x 6 seems to be the better compromise for our needs. Thanks to Numpty for his input.
