Seriously though enjoy it and I'm sure there's room for the dogs ... on the bed. You and Ian will have to sleep on the floor.

Good on you!! Looks like a ripper! We have a '97 model and it is awesome. It makes camping so easy! Friday arvo, hook on and go. You'll love it.

If you don't have a treg coupling for the tow bar, make sure it comes with the trailer or you will have to source one. I don't know what the requirements are down there, but up here the seller needs to supply a roadworthy and gas cert.

Actually this is a good point perhaps someone can enlighten me on this.

when we go to pick up the trailer....do we have to surrender plates etc in vic before we leave what if the guy has done this already? can we get some sort of exemption to drive it back to NSW to get it registered.

Lou you need a VicRoads transit permit to drive it back. As you live interstate (NSW) you can't register it or transfer the rego to you or Ian. Costs about $45 (last year) and is valid for 28 days.

This is what we had to do with both the car and trailer last year when we bought them in Melbourne.

so we would go and pay for the trailer.....we would then what take the trailer to RTA if registered surrender in the plates and pick up a permit?

or can we not tow the trailer at all...and have to go straight to the RTA first...which I'm guessing we would have to do if he has already surrendered them in. I'm only guessing its not registered because Its been garaged for some time.

thanks for the info derek it very helpful...didn't want to start asking this stuff until we were sure we were going down (you know jinx's and all)

You will need to go to VicRoads (with the trailer details) and get a Permit. When you get back to NSW you will then need to get the trailer registered and show the RTA the VicRoads permit. This way you are all legit in case of an accident.

Also have you thought about trailer insurance and got a cover not ready?

I believe you get the Vic permit, drive it back to NSW.

Register in NSW then cancel Vic rego (via the transfer paper you get when you pick it up) and return plates with Vic rego paper.

If unregistered the permit will allow you to drive home then get it registered within the 28 days.

    Enjoy (the trailer)
