    Smile My old 101!

All this talk of 101's got me thinking!! So, I've dug some photos of my old one out. Started life as a GS RHD 12v, which was thirsty, noisy, and slow. Since its release from military use it had had very little use, and sat rotting on a drive in the UK. That's when I found it. First to change was the V8.... into a FD6 Nissan Diesel. Then came the 4.7 to 1 diffs... This stretched its legs, and made it capable of 100mph.. Loaded! At this speed, I needed more light so the double headlighted bumper was made. Then came the twin linked fuel tanks and air tank... The red paint and the hard top! Fantastic machine and I want another!!!! Excuse the quality of the photos the first includes me, the last is the latest photo of the truck I have... but I was taking the photo!

For some reason the wonderful photo download system will only let me put one photo up... If I upload a second, it overwrites the first! Oh for the simple Facebook style system!!! Sooooo frustrating!!! Tried to put another up here... And it puts it on upside down! It's on the computer the right way up.... WTF?

That is not a real good 101 - it has fallen over and ended up side down.

You took the pic down - I bet it comes back on its wheels.

When the Nissan diesel was fitted, how did you work out the gearbox / engine spacing.
I am guessing the longer motor must have made the radiator moved much further forward then standard V8.

    Sitec,
Sounds like you had an interesting 101.
You might have more success with linking photo's from something like photobucket.

Here's the FD6 in place.... Don't look too closely at the conversion ring!! Steel plate and a Range Rover clutch cover drilled and bolted to the Nissan Flywheel.... Using a steel rule for accuracy!! I gave it 4 yrs abuse before selling it and it never failed... Oh we'll accept for literally blowing several over drives to pieces.. but 6 litres is going to do that!! Gearbox went back about 150mm , which eliminated the front prop drone that they all have!!

And finished before paint... Sorry about the clarity/quality of these pics, they're old photos that I've then taken a pic of using the IPad... I might dig out the scanner and try that if anyone wants more detail. The rear wheel carrier was hinged off the original airport able lifting eyes, and latched to the tailgate 'anti loose' latches. Worked well... but not something to fold up or down for the faint hearted!!! I've started to do a bit of digging to see if I can find it again, as the UK road authority is showing that its sat 'laid up' at the moment!! Might be cheaper to buy it back and ship out rather than buy one here!!

Prett sure I saw it for sale as a non runner on the 101 club board a year or two back.
Whoever had it took the Nissan out in favour of returning it to V8 power, and the roof was sold to someone else also.
Might not have been the same truck, but the roof and colour look familiar...

Wouldn't surprise me, I've not seen it in at least 8 yrs now. Someone else told me it was laid up somewhere, and now painted black! They'd have had fun getting it back to a V8 as the props were altered, the gear linkage, etc etc.
