    More Progress!

So, last night was spent making the bracket to mount the vacuum pump. Its now in situ, along with the dipstick tube which is accessible via the radiator fill point.

    Hose time!

This morning has been spent playing with coolant hoses. The heater hoses are in and all but done. Just the joint below the top hose at the engine end to fit. I'm holding off on this until I've made the link hose from engine to rad. Once this is done, I'll secure the heater hose to the top hose clearing the gear linkage. Here's the steel link/conversion pipe which is part of the bottom hose. The 6Bt's bottom outlet is 65 mm, and I now have a pair of 45mm outlets on the rad. More to follow tonight if (huge if) Telstra are behaving. Our local tower is overloaded, and they are a bunch of un interested muppets!! Photo of the lower hose.

    A little video..

So, after bleeding it, topping up the coolant etc, and triple checking everything, time has come to see if all my mods work! Turn the key and it starts! Compressor is noisy as it is yet to be connected.

Last night was spent trying to get the large nut that retains one of the center diff bearings removed.. It seems in his wisdom, the PO decided to use Locktite instead of bending in the locking part of the nut. Even heat wouldn't shift it so the grinder will shortly! This morning was spent fitting the nylon boss to the front pulley having drilled it to match the the hub and fan. I've also shortened each fan blade by 40mm so it'll fit!!

    Decent run.

Once the fan was fitted, I fitted the muffler, and am now able to give it a good run. To stop the oil running out of the rear of the box I fitted the transfer input gear and 'special' nut. I wanted to run it for half an hour at 1/2 throttle to watch for leaks, test cooling etc. With it running and at working temp, the temp gauge goes up just past the 85 deg mark, (88) then the thermostat opens and it drops back to 85. Half an hour later it was still fine, the fan is shifting plenty of air and the bottom of the rad is remaining cool which is good. What the test run did throw up tho is that the oil from the gearbox is tracking up the splines and out thru the holes in the input gear.. Thought I'd check the breather. Well and truly blocked. This has now been rectified, but Im going to fit some sort of 'O' ring seal to the nut to eliminate oil passage. (At least the LT230 would never b short of oil!!)
