    The plan...

So, here's the nearest pic Ive found so far of what I'm planning. Hoping for the box to be a bit lower and better styled, and with the trucks I've found, there's a chance it'll end up as a 6x4 initially before becoming a 6x6!! Overkill??

That's an interesting site. There are a fair few 'decididly average' choices in trucks under some very interesting bodies tho! I'm more than set on the Merc now as I know they'll do 120kmh, and with the right body will still look sensible too. Here's a rough sketch of a body on a 6x6.. I still think its too big, and am leaning again back to two axles... Draft one tho so a little way to go yet!

Have you considered looking at an ex-Dakar rally type assistance truck? They're generally 6x6 and well setup suspension wise and most have under-chassis air tanks, huge fuel capacity, water tanks, air plumbed to all wheels, setup for twin spares, etc. The roll cage would be a good measure and the bodies would be very easily turned into a camper. They've had an easy life since 2008 when the Dakar moved to South America as virtually all the service route is tar-sealed main highways. They'd make a good base I think. Plenty of MANs, not sure I've seen too many Mercs but never really looked myself. Not sure about 120kph, as the service route speeds are always limited to 90kph, but I suspect both of trucks I was passenger in would be easily capable of good speeds.
