There was a lot of oil in the engine bay. A new clip and a top up-a big top up- got things sorted. Have not heard of one going before but I always carry spares. This could be what happened to you. Check your oil pipe at top and bottom where it is held on by jubilee clips. It is on the drivers side of the engine and about 10 inches long with a bend at the top and about 1 inch thick. The top of it is just below the hose that goes from the crankcase breather to the airfilter (200 tdi). Hopefully that is all it is and no damage was done. I hope like me a new clip and a top up will get you sorted.
Good call Spudfan. I just spoke to Brendon and it looks like it is the same hose that has let go on his motor. He is going to wait until he contacts Neil at Suttons before deciding what to do. A lot depends on whether any damage has been done to the motor. Hopefully he will be on his way again shortly.

I used Suttons for a waterpump as a spare when out that way and can't recommend them highly enough.

Hopefully they can get you going again,

I'll third that notion, gives me confidence that help is never far away from the good people on this forum. We are doing the (big trip) in August and I've taken down Suttons number just in case. Would not have known about them if not for you good people out there.
    Good luck Brendan..

    Update...
Received a text from Brendon who said Neil was brilliant.
It was the hose that came loose
Still 2 litres of oil in the sump so they think the motor survived.
Turbo checked also and it looks good too.
In his words "fingers crosed we'll be back on the road soon".
And also a thankyou to all who have helped.
    Cheers, Kyle

Just got off the phone to Brendon, it looks like all is ok with the motor and turbo, Spudfan, you were spot on, it was the hose you mentioned, just came loose and fell off. As alien said there was still a couple of litres of oil left in the sump so looks like nothing ran dry. While Neil was fixing it he noticed a couple of other things that needed fixing so it is booked back in there next Thursday to have them fixed. One of them was a crack in the power booster case. So they are going to have a few days sightseeing in the Alice and give it a good run to make sure everything is ok before heading off to the Kimberleys again. Thanks to those who suggested where to go and offered advice, he is very impressed with the help he has received.
