    Broken down in alice springs

Our 'big trip' looks like it has just come to a premature end. After 10 days and 4000km the trusty 110 tdi has just dumped all it's engine oil - unfortunately there was no warning lamp, first I knew was a whining sound, then I immediately switched off. There's oil everywhere underneath and there's no sign of oil on the dipstick so I'm buggered. We were headed to the kimberley but now will have to get the car towed home, unless I can find someone in alice springs who can get me going again? I'm new to land rovers and am typing this on my iPhone while I sit next to my stranded truck, so hard to google from here, if anyone has any suggestions can u please call or txt me on 0402618054, thanks, brendon

You may be better off contacting TR Spares in Adelaide and getting a complete engine shipped up and fitting it in Alice.

Address 7 Magna Ct, Lonsdale, South Australia 5160
    Phone +61 (08) 8384 6933
    Fax +61 (08) 8384 2133
    Hours of Business Mon-Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm, Sat 8:00am-12:30pm
    Email info@triumphroverspares.com.au

May work out about the same as shipping the car back to Melbourne and flying the family back.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Suttons will be your best bet - they'll either get you going again or at least tell you what went wrong.

Just got off the phone to Brendon - he says thanks for the recommendations. Sounds like he'll be calling Suttons first thing in the morning.

My Tdi started losing oil suddenly a number of years ago. Engine oil light came on so the brakes were applied and a quick look under the bonnet revealer that the circular jubilee clip on one end of the oil pipe had failed letting the pipe come away from the engine block. There was a lot of oil in the engine bay. A new clip and a top up-a big top up- got things sorted. Have not heard of one going before but I always carry spares. This could be what happened to you. Check your oil pipe at top and bottom where it is held on by jubilee clips. It is on the drivers side of the engine and about 10 inches long with a bend at the top and about 1 inch thick. The top of it is just below the hose that goes from the crankcase breather to the airfilter (200 tdi). Hopefully that is all it is and no damage was done. I hope like me a new clip and a top up will get you sorted.

Broken down in the Alice... hmmm brings back memories of 2008

    Yes, Suttons are the go.

If you need to ship the vehicle somewhere talk to Northline (behind Suttons) as they were also helpful in putting my D2a in a container and getting it to Melbourne cheaply and quickly. If the vehicle isn't running car carriers don't want to know about it.

Good luck and I hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

Let me just add this - if you're going to break down out that way - getting to Suttons is the thing to do. Neil is the best LR man I've ever come across - and a gentleman to boot.

Good luck - Suttons are this country's best LR dealership - daylight comes second.
