    Dual-cab Defender 130 water tank - dimensions?

I'm looking to put a water tank under the rear seats of the Defender, and was wondering if anyone else who had done this still has the measurements. I want to start makin enquiries today, but forgot to take measurements yesterday.

Also, if anyone knows a good option for suppliers, this would be handy.

    1320mm long x 365mm wide x 125mm high - 60 litres

On my 1998, you will need to grind the unused threads on the bolts holding the seat frames to the seat box. You will also need to cut the reinforcing rib off on the lid of the box.

I'll get the pics and my drawing up as soon as I can find them

atlastanks.com.au on the Sunshine Coast is the supplier.

    Thanks

Thanks mate. I called Atlas this morning and asked if they still had the dimensions/mold for a 130, but they said they didn't.

Hmm I( wouldn;t have thought they;d throw a mold away? Maybe these use a technique with a one-use mold for custom tanks ?

    Bloody annoying that !

Ranga, where are you thinking of putting the fill and drain? I have been going to get round to this after finding 86mud's post. Perhaps if we are on the same page we could see if a better price can be done for two.

I'd be looking at passenger side drain and fill

Hadn't thought about it much. Some go to the trouble of having a filler on the side of the vehicle. I'd be happy having a lid to unscrew on top of the tank and shoving a hose in there I reckon. As for drain, not too sure.

newhu I am up fro one too - might have some buying power between s if get three the same,

i havee an addional fuel filler on the drivers side, so yeah i was looking ata passenger side option as well.

ranga you need to have a tube filler so you can havea breather as well. Imagine a fuel tank fillled directly.. aside from the fammabiity issue you;d have the same problems....

newhue i was thinkig of having the fillerand breather on the side - so they come out the side of the seat box and then do a 90 degree vertical turn with hoses on from there to the filler which I would cut into the side of the cab behind the rear passenger door.

As to the drain/exit that's another matter. I think it really needs to come out of the rear of the tank so it can be directed easily into a pump mounted to the chassis (probably) and then on tap on the rear cross member.

All depends exactly on teh best place people think to mount the pump. It might be better in the cab with just the hose to teh tap running out of it. Hmm - some thought to be done there.

As I have fuel on teh drivers side I really want to keep all teh water conentors etc ell away from that side.

Edit: Sounds like the three of us need to get together with our cars for a brainstormuing / beer drinking session (responsible drinking of course).

    wow 3 that's the go.
yes I had envisioned an internal fill, that comes out the side of the seat box and elbows upward in the cavity between the seat box and the door. Puma seats don't hinge so a top mounted fill on the box won't work for me.
I think the breather could go internally or externally really.
As for the exit, I already have an under tray tank with it's pump located close behind the passengers rear of the car, so an exit there would work for me.
Kind of hopped I could work it in with the pump but haven't given it much thought.

You guys are both at Radcliffe, so I guess I'm doing the travelling for a beer, but will probably bring the kids and wifie for a dip.
How about a meeting this Sunday, along the water front where they fly the kites.
How about 10am, maybe coffee instead of beer, but am happy to knock the top off a beer at 10 if required for brainstorming purposes.

    what do you reckon?

Sounds like a plan. Can you not use a breather like what's on a portable fule take for boats? They just have a screw incorporated into the lid (plus sometimes a quantity guage). Probably a bit of a hassle opening the breather when taking water from the tank, but saves the hassle of cutting the panel. We definitely need to catch up for brainstorming (we have blamestorming at work, where we sit around and identify who stuffed up what ).

Just to add an idea to your bulk purchase.
My tank is Al not plastic but this should still work.

-Just have two 12mm hose tails installed, one at the bottom the second at the top of the tank.
-Bottom hose tail goes to hose that you setup as your supply tap.
-Top hose tail uses a "quick connect" to your air compressor with a ball valve.

To fill tank disconnect "quick connect", attach hose to tap and fill tank until water comes out "quick connect".

Instead of pump, run air comp for a few seconds to pressurise tank, tap will pressure feed. Just watch the amount of pressure you apply!!!! Works well for us, a blast from the compressor will keep tank pressurised for many many litres. No hassle with pumps, pressure is good for lots of jobs!
