    Battery suggestions

Looking for 2 new batteries for the Defender. Was thinking of going with marine cranking/deep cycle hybrids. Anyone able to suggest a brand/model that would allow 2 to fit with a bit ofr room for an isolator and cabling?

A couple of Optima Blue top D34M's will do the job very nicely. I have those and the stock battery all under the passenger seat. Runs the fridge for a week without starting no probs

Really?! My 120Ah would struggle to do that, and the D34M is only 55Ah?

I will lift the seat tomorrow and double check but yeah, I have the fridge in 24/7 and sometimes don't drive for 4 or 5 days starts fine. It went in to land rover for a replacement diff and they had it for a good week no probs and only put a few km on it.

Just to clarify - how many batteries all up in the vehicle, and any isolators etc?

3 batteries all up, 2 blue tops and the original. I have traced the wires numerous times and cannot find and isolators etc.. as I bought the car with them already installed so I assume they are running in parallel.

I have a pair of Super Charge calcium/calcium batteries that have been under the passengers seat for about six years now and still going fine, including going dead flat while the car sat for six months when i was disgusted with it after lunching the big ends.

I fully expected them to be stuffed when I finally fixed the engine (they showed bugger all charge) but they recharged fine and are still going eighteen months or whatever it is later.

Can't recall the size ATM, but they are identical.

I want to get one of Tim's new battery isolators to do what i planned to do with a marine isolator for starting and winch use.

For those trying to squeeze dual batteries under a Defender seat box ....

    For the starting battery ....

I replaced my starting battery with a DIN66 sized one 14 months ago. I've always had N70 size starting batteries which are about 220mm high and 300mm long and when you combine that with a second similar sized second battery for the fridge, well we all know how squeezy it can get.

The DIN66 size is intended for euro cars but is not as high nor long. 175mm high and 278mm long. Makes getting it in and out a lot easier.

I bought a Supercharge Gold MF66 for $185. 670 CCA and an RC of 120 which has been fine for my 300TDi.

A lot easier to fit in than the N70 series.

As for the second battery for the fridge, I run a AGM in an N70 size.
