    After driving my Disco for the last 10 years, I was no longer noticing the absence of "the wave". Which normally constitutes the uncurling of 4 fingers from the steering wheel and pointing them towards the roof. From the same hand of course.....
    But within the first couple of days of driving my '90, I got waved at by a fellow defender driver. I have to admit that the comeradery of the wave felt great for a few minutes, and it certainly rammed home just how much I had missed that comeradery from when I drove my Series' vehicles.
    Sadly, it's the only series or defender I have passed since then...... Or perhaps it's a case of me not noticing???? I hope not. But for some reason I haven't seen many series/county/defenders in my travels in the last 1.5 weeks that could be waved at in a semi degnified manner. They must drive to work at a different time than me..... :-)

    Cheers,

    Phill.

    That's being a bit subjective mate. I have a '97 D1 & wave to all models of Landies, even Evoques . If you can't be bothered waving to a Disco or Rangie then your a big part of the "dying wave" problem because I'd think you were a bit rude if I passed you & didn't get a wave.

    It's always been a Series / Defender wave. Not a LR wave.

    You Disco and RR owners have no business being involved...... (stirring)

    Uh oh, this will be good
    By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

    What about the very nice woman in the Rangie that waved to us all last Friday on the Kenilworth Rd? I'm sure you didn't mind that

    I always seem to cross paths with another county/defender/series when I'm driving my Subaru and/or I see one passing across a perpendicular road, leaving no opportunity to wave.

    In our family's collective memory, Disco/Rangie drivers never seemed to offer a wave unless you were far enough bush that every vehicle waved.

    We bought our first Landy a year ago. A then new (MY13 - Puma) 110 double cab ute.

    My wife, my son (6yo), and I always wave at other Defenders when riding in ours. We express disappointment if we pass one and are not in the Defender. "DAD!! A Defender! We should have been driving your car, not mum's!"

    More than that we ALWAYS play a LR spotting game.
    Defender is worth 100 points (triple point score if they wave back!)
    Range Rover = 50 points
    Disco = 20 points
    Freelander = 10 points

    Apologies in advance to any Rangie/Disco/Freelander owners who want to take exception to the points ranking. It's definitely and immutably a merit thing - live with it. (And this from a LR fancier only new to the fold, with a newer breed Defender!)

    We are in Kuala Lumpur and don't see a lot of other Defenders when we are out on the city roads. Maybe one a week, or one in two weeks. It's bonanza time if we see 3 Defenders in a weekend.

    However it's well known to Malaysians and expats living here that one of the popular hill top stations established as a tea plantation area by the British colonists - Cameron Highlands - there are THOUSANDS of old Series Land Rovers.

    We had a long weekend holiday up there a few months ago and were delighted to see so many old LRs

    Hey how about some photos for the forum Tact?

    I'm sure many members of au.lro would love to see this collection, even if some of them are (presumably) looking a bit sad and neglected.

    In NZ it is only a Defender or Series wave. My kids play spot the Series and Defender...we don't score lesser Landies

    I am looking at getting a P38 as want a V8...will miss the wave.
